Football player Aaron Rodgers is taking part in a new cryptocurrency contest that will see roughly $1 million worth of BTC go to his Twitter followers.

Aaron Rodgers Is Pushing BTC Ahead

Last Halloween, Rodgers – who plays as a quarterback for the Green Bay Packers in Wisconsin – released the following message on social media:

I believe in bitcoin, and the future is bright. That’s why I’m teaming up with Cash App to take a portion of my salary in bitcoin today. To make bitcoin more accessible to my fans I’m giving out a total of $1M in BTC now, too.

To take part in the contest, fans are required to tweet #PaidInBitcoin and then follow the Cash App platform. They must then provide their Cashtag name, which allows them to send money to various individuals online. Thus far, Rodgers has already given out loads of bitcoin, though it hasn’t been announced how close he is to reaching that $1 million goal. Based on several images that users have posted on social media, it appears many participants have gotten anywhere between $10 and $100.

For diehard crypto fans, perhaps the most exciting news is that Rodgers is now earning part of his annual salary in crypto. He’s just the latest sports star to accept part of his pay in bitcoin, and he is now part of a lengthening string of athletes to engage in this behavior such as Russell Okung, a former player on the Carolina Panthers team.

Aceasta este o tendință în creștere

Okung made news just shy of a year ago when he announced that he would be transferring half of his annual salary into bitcoin. When asked why, he mentioned in an interview that bitcoin was cleaner and more honest than traditional financial tools, and thus gave more power and financial independence to its users. He said:

It wasn’t long before other sportsmen began to follow suit. Sean Culkin of the Kansas City Chiefs was next in line to announce that he would be doing the same… converting part of his annual pay to bitcoin units. Sadly, it wasn’t long before he was cut from the team, and thus he never got to cash in on his bitcoin salary.
