Barco customises projector frames to combat cave humidity

Eight Barco G100-W19s that project the life story of Chinese emperor Shun on to an underground cave wall have been fitted with customised projector frames, dehumidifiers and thermostats to help them perform in the humid conditions.

The dehumidification systems run 24/7 in each projector cabinet, keeping the operating humidity of the devices within 2% of the ideal setting and allowing the many visitors to the Zixiayan (‘Purple Ray Rock’) cave to enjoy an immersive light show.

The G100-W19’s laser phosphor light source, advanced cooling design and outstanding heat radiation ensure stable performances with low noise levels even at extreme temperatures and humidity. It is also suitable for screenings that require ultra-high brightness and long-lasting operation.

The 1.5km-long Zixiayan (‘Purple Ray Rock’) cave in Jiuyishan National Forest Park, in Hunan Province, features a myriad of stone carvings and inscriptions left by well-known figures from ancient China. As well as its historical and cultural significance, the cave’s many stone columns, stalagmites and stone waterfalls make it a popular tourist attraction.
