Biden brings back the Neat Board after Covid diagnosis

US president Joe Biden’s office Neat Board has made the news, appearing in photos on Twitter and attracting widespread attention in newspaper and technology websites.

The president appears to have become a remote participant in meetings after experiencing mild Covid symptoms and testing positive for the disease last week.

Biden’s Neat Board appeared in a Twitter post about gas prices put out by his team on Friday and in a further post on Monday about legislation to support semiconductor manufacturing in the US.

The Neat Board had previously appeared in photos throughout 2021, before its return to the limelight this month, and the White House is known to be a user of Zoom for Government.

American commentators have paid careful attention to the cost of the unit, putting it at above $7,000, in the format seen at the White House.

The New York Post reports: “While the Neat Board itself retails for $5,790, Biden’s version includes a rollable floor stand that costs an additional $1,490 — bringing the total taxpayer bill for the President’s rig to $7,280 plus shipping, according to prices listed on the Neat Board site.”

A similar figure is given in tech publication The Verge, which says; “The whole rig in front of Biden is about six feet tall and weighs about 125 pounds. It also costs $7,280 as he has it configured — though he doesn’t appear to be using the $760 Scheduling Display or the $760 Controller, so he’s exercising some fiscal responsibility there.”

The Neat Board comes with a 65-inch 4K screen, an integrated touchscreen and whiteboard tool, and a 12-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom.
