Dutch football team, crypto exchange agree on bitcoin partnership

In one of its recent announcements, Dutch football team AZ Alkmaar said they have partnered with local bitcoin exchange Bitcoin Meester, which will act as the team’s exclusive and official Bitcoin partner.

As part of the deal, the crypto exchange will pay part of its dues through cryptocurrency. Meanwhile, the football team also announced that it will hold the bitcoin payments on its balance sheet.

“The cryptocurrency market is booming, with an exponential growth of users in recent years. That is appealing, but it is precisely in a new market that some guidance is important,” Michael Koster, AZ Alkmaar’s Commercial Director, said about their decision in venturing into digital currencies.

Opportunities in a safe environment

In the succeeding parts of the team’s announcement, Koster put emphasis on the appeal of the combination of an opportunity-filled market and a safe environment where it can prosper.

With that being said, the team official said the core of their partnership with Bitcoin Meester is the promotion of bitcoin and the exchange’s services to fans and the broader Dutch population while also providing guidance on how to buy, sell and hold bitcoin safely.

“Sports, and football in particular, is one of the most important strategic markets for us and we are constantly looking for new opportunities to involve our growing fan base there,” said Mitchell Zandwijken, the Chief Executive Officer of Bitcoin Meester.

Confidence with bitcoin

According to the partnership announcement, the football team and the local crypto exchange believe in the future of the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.

That is the reason why, as part of the deal, bitcoin will be used to pay some of the obligation of Bitcoin Meester to the football team.
