How to Play and Win: Decentraland Worlds

Making a space for everyone inside the metaverse

Decentraland is one of the most famous virtual world platforms in the Web3 space. Now anyone who owns a Decentraland NAME can access its ecosystem via Decentraland Worlds. While you won’t be able to own land, you will be able to create on, attract people to it and maybe even monetize it.

What is Decentraland Worlds?

Decentraland Worlds are personal, four parcel-lands tied to Decentraland NAMEs that exist separately from Decentraland’s Genesis City and its associated LANDs. If you don’t already have one, you’ll need to purchase a NAME for 100 MANA tokens. Worlds are a personal space where users can explore how the full game works, and how to create inside it.

While Worlds are open for people to build and create on, they cannot be sold. As mentioned, Decentraland Worlds is currently in its beta stage and is open to join.

How to get involved

How to activate your own World

If you own a NAME in Decentraland, you can access the Worlds beta using the SDK command line tool (CLI). To activate the World associated with your NAME, simply follow the normal process for deploying a scene, but make sure to specify the correct content server.

Step 1

 Modify your scene.json file to add this snippet:

Step 2

Deploy, using the command:

dcl deploy –target-content https://worlds-content-server.decentraland.org

Step 3

Enter the World using play.decentraland.org/world/NAME or /changerealm NAME.dcl.eth **in the in-world chatbox.

How to visit a World

There are two ways to enter a scene that’s already been deployed. You can either use a specific URL or enter a command in the in-world chat box:

• To use the URL, go to your browser and enter “play.decentraland.org/world/NAME,” replacing “NAME” with the Decentraland NAME associated with the world you want to enter. 
• To enter a world using the in-world chat box, press “Enter” to open the chat box, then type: “/changerealm NAME.dcl.eth”. Press “Enter” again to execute the command. 

Note: in the directions above, you should replace “NAME” with the Decentraland NAME associated with the world you are trying to enter.

What is Decentraland?

Decentraland is a virtual reality platform built on the Ethereum blockchain. It allows users to create, experience, and monetize content and applications in a virtual world. Decentraland is made up of a network of interconnected 3D scenes, or “parcels,” that users can interact with.

Each parcel is owned by a unique Ethereum address and can be bought, sold, or leased using cryptocurrency. Users can customize their avatars, explore the virtual world, and participate in various activities and events within the platform.

Decentraland is an open platform, so anyone can create and publish content, as well as host events and experiences.

How to start playing Decentraland

1. Create an Ethereum wallet.

Decentraland uses the Ethereum blockchain to store and transfer virtual assets, such as land parcels. In order to interact with these assets, you will need to create an Ethereum wallet, such as MetaMask or MyEtherWallet.

2. Install the Decentraland app.

To access the Decentraland virtual world, you will need to install the Decentraland app on your computer. You can download the app from the Decentraland website or from the GitHub repository. Decentraland is also accessible through your web browser, but this will hamper loading times and performance. 

3. Get some MANA.

MANA is the cryptocurrency used to buy, sell, and lease land parcels within Decentraland. You will need to purchase some MANA in order to interact with the virtual world. Here on DappRadar you can purchase MANA through our Token Swap feature.

4. Explore and start having fun.

Once you have set up your Ethereum wallet, installed the Decentraland app, and purchased some MANA, you can start exploring the virtual world and interacting with other users and virtual assets. You can customize your avatar, visit different 3D scenes, or create your own content within the platform.

Can you win the game?

The word win is probably the wrong one to use when it comes to Decentraland. You play, explore and experience inside the virtual world, on an ongoing basis. As a virtual reality platform, users can create and interact with 3D scenes, or “worlds,” within the decentralized network. You can customize their avatars, roam through the digital streets, and participate in various activities and events within the platform.

Saying this, there are a few ways you can succeed inside Decentraland:

Create and publish high quality content

Users can earn cryptocurrency by creating and publishing content within the Decentraland platform. This can include creating 3D scenes, hosting events, or developing interactive experiences.

Buy and sell land parcels

Land parcels within Decentraland can be bought, sold, and leased using cryptocurrency. Users who are able to buy land parcels at a low price and sell them later at a higher price can potentially earn a profit.

Participate in events and experiences

Decentraland users can participate in various events and experiences within the platform, such as concerts, gaming tournaments, or art exhibitions.

Decentralization

MANA

The MANA token is the native cryptocurrency of the Decentraland platform. People can buy, sell, and lease land parcels within the Decentraland virtual reality platform using it. You also need it to create and publish content within the platform. MANA is built on the Ethereum blockchain and holders need an Ethereum-based wallet to store it.

Interoperability

Decentraland is built on the Ethereum blockchain, which allows it to interact with other Ethereum-based platforms and dapps. This allows for the creation of new and innovative use cases for Decentraland. Most of the digital fashion items for your avatar exist on the Polygon blockchain.

Customization and creativity

Decentraland is an open platform, meaning that anyone can create and customize their own 3D scenes, or “worlds,” within the platform. This allows for a wide range of creative and innovative content and experiences to be developed within the platform.

Biggest land sales of the 2022

Land is one of the core assets inside Decentraland. So we’ve rounded up the five biggest sales for 2022:

• Dragon City Estate – 315,000 MANA ($938,700) – 18 February
• Parcel -39, 8 – 112,000 MANA ($280,000) – 16 March
• Parcel -129, 22 – 112,000 MANA ($271,040) – 16 March
• Parcel -71, 98 – 60 ETH ($187,770) – 16 February
• Very central, priced to sell – 51.85 ETH ($160,740) – 19 April

As you can see from the prices above, estates and land parcels inside Decentraland are still fetching high prices, even during the downturn of 2022.

The importance of good data

This year, DappRadar and Decentraland appeared in the news when media outlet Coindesk noticed the very low number of unique active wallets (UAW) connecting to the Decentraland smart contracts.

Confusion arose when DappRadar data appeared to show that only 38 people had played the game during one month. What had actually happened was 38 Web3 wallets had connected to the game, but lots of Decentraland’s activity takes place off-chain before all the transactions being bulk-loaded to the blockchain. Using the method to process activity saves people money and makes the experience smoother.

On the back of the news story, we worked closely with Decentraland and guided them in manually updating their smart contracts. They used our dedicated developer dashboard to ensure all of their smart contracts are tracked by our tools.

When Decentraland updated their smart contracts, it showed 775 unique UAWs connected with the Decentraland smart contracts during one month. And Decentraland released their own data, showing that 60,000 players played the game during the same period.
