k0nfig to miss Major qualifier following injury

Astralis have announced that Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke has suffered a “complicated ankle fracture” and that he will require a lot of rest over the coming days and weeks.

It’s unclear for how long the 25-year-old will be out of action, but at the very least he will miss the IEM Road to Rio RMR A tournament taking place from October 4-9, the organization has revealed.

Astralis will attempt to qualify for the IEM Rio Major without k0nfig

The Danish powerhouse will fight at the all-important tournament for a spot at the IEM Rio Major with one of their academy players, MistR, who has supposedly been submitted as their official substitute player ahead of the roster deadline for the RMR event.

This will come as a big blow to Astralis‘ chances at the stacked Major-qualifying tournament, where 16 teams will compete including the likes of heavyweights FaZe, G2, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Cloud9 and eight will advance to IEM Rio.

While often criticized for his inconsistency, k0nfig has played a key role in some of Astralis‘ best performances so far in 2022, such as in their run to the semi-finals at IEM Cologne and to top-eight finishes at ESL Pro League Season 15 and IEM Katowice.

It’s not the first time that k0nfig will miss several weeks of action following a serious injury. In the latter half of 2021, when he was still part of Complexity, he was sidelined from competition for nearly two months after he had broken his wrist.

Astralis‘ lineup for the Europe RMR will be the following:

Denmark Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander
Denmark Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth
Denmark Benjamin “blameF” Bremer
Denmark Asger “Farlig” Jensen
Denmark Mikkel “MistR” Thomsen

Denmark Martin “trace” Heldt (coach)
