Ricardo Salinas Pliego, Mexico’s third-richest man, said in a recent interview that he plans to hold on to bitcoin for the next 30 years, in what appears to be a solid show of support for the cryptocurrency.
Also, after calling all fiat currencies “fraud,” he said his bank could start offering bitcoin banking services to its clients.
The billionaire pointed out that the limitedness of bitcoin supply adds merit to it, making it better compared to other assets, making him invest in it for the next three decades if given the chance.
Always a supporter
Pliego has always been a solid supporter of the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, even going to as far as motivating investors to purchase the cryptocurrency.
In explaining his position, Pliego cited the limited supply of digital currency as one of the reasons for its success. Also, he said bitcoin has international value and is traded with enormous liquidity at a global level.
This is one of the factors why he decided to double down on his belief that the asset should be part of every portfolio.
Meanwhile, Pliego also said local currencies in countries like Venezuela, Argentina, and Zimbabwe have lost even more of their value. “The dollar as hard money is a joke,” he added.
No to Dogecoin
While showing solid support for bitcoin, the Mexican tycoon, unlike high profile individuals such as Elon Musk, is not buying into the dogecoin frenzy.
In fact, he replied to a Twitter post of a dogecoin investor on Tuesday and said, “You’ll stay poor. Good luck.”
Pliego has shared recently that he has converted 10% of his liquid assets to bitcoin last year and has added the “laser eyes meme” to his Twitter account, further solidifying his stance on the top crypto.
