Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, highlighted what to expect in the upcoming 2025 roadmap.

Hoskinson discussed how the 2025 vision is shaping out in his first AMA since returning from the Africa tour.

Plans for 2025

Working groups are currently reviewing what needs to be done on the remaining Basho and Voltaire phases, he said. There’s also a division studying “next-generation technology.”

However, these are recommendations that, according to Hoskinson, require open governance to vote on before the 2025 roadmap is finalized.

“At the moment, we have a large working group tasked with quantifying the remaining items for Basho and Voltaire. There’s also a parallel working group on next-generation technology right now,” he said.

In the context of high transaction volume, Basho refers to scaling and increasing network performance to better support growth and adoption.

When IOHK steps away from the project, Voltaire refers to developing a self-sustaining ecosystem so that Cardano can be genuinely decentralized. But how does the strategy for 2025 differ from the previous one?

A lot to be done

There’s still a lot to be done with the current phases. The three HFC events will be used to fit these yet-to-be-determined roadmap goals into the development timeline. These are scheduled for February, June, and October, respectively.

More specific facts will be given as they become available, according to Hoskinson. However, the timing of the HFC events will determine how the roadmap targets are implemented.

Hoskinson mentioned “wonderful things” that “people will be happy with” when it comes to finishing the Basho scaling and Voltaire governance phases, though he didn’t specify what these would be.

Recently, the Hydra layer-2 scaling method was mentioned. IOHK predicts 1,000 transactions per second (TPS) for each Hydra head using their “isomorphic state channels” technology, with 1,000 Hydra heads totaling 1,000,000 TPS.
