Workout Wednesday: Great for Beginners

With every new year comes resolutions, and one so many of us have made is to get active. We know that exercising more is a key to being healthy, but our busy lives make it hard to stick to these important commitments we make to ourselves.

One of the reasons many of us struggle to get, and stay, active is that we’ve never established the kind of workout routine that keeps us coming back day after day. And given all the things that can hold us back—work, commuting, shopping, and so on—starting one can be truly daunting.

But working out doesn’t have to be a struggle or a hassle. In fact, it can be fun—even, or especially, for beginners. And with Meta Quest, getting started on a fitness routine is easy because there’s tons of fun and immersive VR fitness apps that you can dive into whenever and wherever you want, including in your own home. And that means you can start building new habits today that are so fun they don’t feel like habits.

So grab your Meta Quest headset and start an exciting routine. Whether it’s a boxing session in Liteboxer, firing up some jump shots in GYM CLASS – Basketball VR, or swinging away in Racket: Nx, VR fitness is perfect for getting your entire body moving. Best of all, you can do it on your schedule, and you’ll have so much fun that you’ll be bragging to all your friends about how you took the “work” out of “workout.”

Each Wednesday this month, we’re highlighting a different fitness-related theme that will get you amped up to move your body and have fun with fitness. We’ll feature inspiring stories from people who have integrated VR fitness into their own lives, highlight some fantastic apps that’ll get your sweat beading, and show you how you can use Meta Quest Move to keep track of your fitness stats.

There’s no better time than today to level up and get going with your new active life or keep going with the one you’ve already built. So let’s strut our stuff right into this week’s theme: Great for Beginners.

What’s New This Week

Heart Rate Integration

The VR fitness community has been asking, and we listened: One of Meta Quest users’ most requested fitness features has been heart rate tracking so that you can easily see tangible and real-time results.

With our Heart Rate feature, you’ll be able to see your heart rate, when measured by a Bluetooth-enabled heart rate monitor, even while you’re in a VR workout.

So when you pair a heart rate monitor to your Meta Quest headset, you’ll have access to better and more precise information about how your VR workouts are raising your heart rate. And with that information in hand, you’ll be able to tailor your efforts to meet your goals.

When you leverage the sensors of your paired heart rate monitor, you’ll see your heart rate in beats per minute (BPM). This data will be displayed on the Move overlay.

Heart rate monitors that are known to work with Meta Quest are Garmin HRM-Dual and Polar H10. Other heart rate monitors that use Bluetooth for pairing may also be pairable with your Meta Quest.

Weekly Inspiration

Supernatural Member Story: Tommy Curtis

Tommy Curtis used to dread climbing the 40 steps from the street to his front door. He knew it was 40 because he counted every last one of them. He rarely exercised, so going up those steps was challenging. “When you’re not healthy,” he recalls, “it’s hard to be happy.”

In his past life, he was satisfied with his routine—watching TV, eating, and relaxing on the couch. He knew he should probably be more active but after struggling to sustain any kind of physical activity, he felt like he might as well just throw in the towel on feeling healthy.

But deep down, he didn’t want to feel so negative about every new day. And that’s when he discovered Supernatural.

At first, he just signed up for the free trial, but before long, he was all-in, regularly doing 30 minutes or more. And in doing so, he developed an entirely new way of looking at life. “It takes the limitations you put on yourself and makes you realize those are not limitations,” he says. “They’re just steps to becoming a better person.”

These are the kinds of inspiring stories we know can help so many more people overcome what they believe are their limitations. If Curtis and thousands of others in the Supernatural community can do it, so can you.

“I love the confidence that I can do hard things,” Curtis says. “Supernatural has given me the ability to live and be happy while I’m doing it. I think I can be anything I want to be.”
