French crypto hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger has raised $380 million in a Series C fundraising round led by Dan Tapiero’s 10T Holdings.

Following the fundraising round, Ledger has an implied valuation of more than $1.5 billion, the company said in an anunț—placing it firmly over a billion-dollar “unicorn” valuation. Previously, Ledger raised $8.3 million in a Series A round in 2017 and $75 million in a Series B round in 2018, with the startup evaluat la 290 milioane dolari în 2019.

According to the company’s CEO Pascal Gauthier, Ledger seeks to become a “secure gateway to the entire digital asset ecosystem”. The fresh funds will be used for developing new products, including decentralized finance (DEFI) solutions that will be available on Ledger Live.

Ledger may dominate the hardware wallet market, but it’s facing increased competition; Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey recently dezvăluit that his crypto company Square could develop its own—fully open source—hardware wallet for Bitcoin.

The company has also faced some hiccups over the last year; in July 2020, the French startup confirmed that hackers had compromised about 1 million customer emails and other personal documents in a breach of its e-commerce database. While the breach was unrelated to Ledger’s hardware wallets or Ledger Live app and no user funds were stolen, it resulted in a tribunal de acțiune împotriva companiei.
