Logitech CEO predicts end of semiconductor shortages

Logitech CEO Bracken Darrell has predicted that the global semiconductor chip shortage will be over by the end of the company’s financial year.

His prediction echoes the views of Deloitte Consulting analysts, reported by AV Magazine last month, who said shortages would end sooner than previously anticipated

Speaking to the Reuters news agency, Logitech’s Darrell said: “We are not over it yet, but the symptoms are getting milder.”

He added: “We will be free and clear in the third quarter, or in the worst case, the fourth quarter,” referring to Logitech reporting periods that end on 31 December 2022 and 31 March 2023.

Last month Deloitte Consulting principals Chris Richard and Brandon Kulik said new production from factories and a slowdown in the world economy would lead to the semiconductor shortage ending in advance of previous forecasts.

However, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger predicted as recently as April that shortages would last until 2024 due to constrained availability of the manufacturing tools needed to increase supply.

With waiting times for products now over a year at some suppliers, anguish over shortages is industry-wide.

Only last month, North American higher education experts on the AV SuperFriends podcast said end-user reactions to supply chain shortages resembled the five stages of grief in a theory made famous by psychiatrist Dr Elizabeth Kubler-Ross.
