Monke Madness: ‘Gorilla Tag’ Now Live on the Meta Quest Store

Today’s the day—multiplayer VR sensation Gorilla Tag is now available for free on the Meta Quest Store! Since its initial launch on Steam and App Lab in 2021, the game has amassed a community of more than 5 million players, most of whom currently play on App Lab, and there’s never been a better time to join the fun.

“There’s no tutorial in the game,” says Another Axiom Founder Kerestell Smith (aka Lemming). “You’ve gotta learn to crawl before you can learn to run. … We’re really relying on social connections to disseminate information. This kind of allows people to figure it out on their own terms.”

“There’s something we’ve lost touch with as adults,” adds Another Axiom’s David Yee. “We’ve forgotten how to go up to people on the playground and ask if someone wants to play. When you go to a park as a kid, you just interact with other kids. You ask them questions. There’s this spirit of play and discovery, and by not having these tutorials and mandatory steps in the game, we’re steering people toward the joy of exploration and discovery. It not only makes you want to explore, it encourages you to be social.”

While the base game is free, you can also purchase the Gorilla Tag launch bundle for $19.99 USD, which includes:

  • 10,000 Shiny Rocks (a 2x value)
  • Special Launch Day Hat
  • Special Launch Day T-Shirt
  • Special Launch Ring Set

Another Axiom has been busy delivering regular updates to the game, and players can expect more of the same, including environment changes and a variety of themed cosmetics to help people express themselves.

“We’re excited to be working on some new mechanics that are similar to the balloons that we released a few months ago, and the new platforming features that are in the launch,” notes Yee. “Our game is about emergent play, and we want our players to have more choices when they come into our world.”

“We’re also looking at other VR platforms,” adds David Neubelt, “and starting pre-production on an expansion that we’re thinking about releasing sometime late next year.”
